50 YEAR MARION TWP RESIDENT
Steve is a Livingston County native and proud graduate of Pinckney High School, Michigan Tech University, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and the Harvard University Kennedy School program for Executives in State and Local Government.
During his county commission tenure, Steve worked to maintain Livingston County’s status as one of only five counties with a AAA bond investment rating, while still keeping county tax rates the lowest of Michigan’s 83 counties.
At 22, Steve was commissioned into the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring after 28 years of service as a communications officer, political/military intelligence analyst, and counter-terrorism analyst. He commanded five units, was deployed overseas several times, and earned the Army Meritorious Service Medal and two Defense Meritorious Service Medals among other awards.
SCHOOL SAFETY ADVOCATE
He support improved school safety (in an event of an active shooter) by requesting the authorization of Sheriff Murphy to create a standard sheriff deputy support contract for the five Livingston County school districts, similar to the contract currently offered to townships. Keep our kids safe.
PRO LIFE ADVOCATE
The advocacy of an unborn child's right is important. Steve's parents were foster parents and adoptive parents even before the Roe v. Wade decision, so he was raised in a home where life was greatly valued. He is proud to have been endorsed by the Right to Life Michigan PAC for seven consecutive election campaigns. He has financially supported Right to Life Livingston and the Pregnancy Help Clinic for many years.
BUDGET & SPENDING
During the Great Recession, revenues dropped 20% for several years, and the Board of Commissioner and Steve were able to streamline operations and reduce costs without raising taxes or reducing services to our residents.
I grew up in Livingston County and live on the farm where my parents, Elton and Mickey Williams, raised me. I have had the privilege of raising my three daughters here, and they graduated from Howell or Pinckney High Schools. All three have, or are currently working on, college degrees. As a long-time Livingston resident, I have a stake in the community and give back by being

BRIDGES & ROADS
The quality of our roads and bridges is a priority for Livingston County residents. Steve has worked hard to bring road funding up to the level required to stop our roads from continuing to deteriorate and to reopen the bridges that remain closed due to lack of necessary repair dollars. Since our gas and registration tax dollars are funneled through state government, he sponsored two resolutions asking our state legislators to address road funding shortfall. Both passed unanimously. He used his position on the SEMCOG Executive Committee to push equitable road funding for Livingston
County. Projects Steve supported:
